The following is a Spurgeonic-inspired poem (based off Spurgeon’s sermons) by Brandon Ivy:
A shadow fell to earth one day.
When sin and death started their sway.
Not born of God’s design or will,
But through our fall, death took its fill.
It tore apart what love had made.
And left the world in fear’s cold shade.
A cruel foe, it claimed its right,
And turned the day to endless night.
But in the dark, a light broke free,
A savior came for you and me.
Not with sword or royal throne,
But through a cross, He made the way,
To turn our mourning into day.
He bore the curse, He felt the sting,
And He arose, the eternal King!
Through empty tomb, He made the way,
To turn our mourning into day
Death still lingers, whispers near,
Yet Christ has robbed it of its fear.
For those who trust in Him, we find,
That death can only free the mind.
A day will come, a trumpet sound,
When death itself will not be found.
Its reign will end, its power cease,
And we shall rise to endless peace.
So, take this hope, both firm and true,
The One who died has conquered too.
With Christ, the grave is not the end,
Eternal life is ours, my friend.
